Sant Simó 2026: the Giants of Sant Simó invite the Robafaves Family ⚓
The Sant Simó festivities are one of Mataró’s most seafaring traditions. This year, as tradition dictates, the Giants of Sant Simó —the Paler, Maria de Mata and Isidret— invited the Robafaves Family, the Nans and the Àliga of Mataró to their celebrations.
A parade to the Sant Simó hermitage
On Sunday 25 October, the figures set off from Can Marfà and paraded from Plaça de l’Havana to the Sant Simó hermitage. Among the Nans were Patufet, the Moro, the Macer and Biada.
At the hermitage there was the Ball de Pescadors (Fishermen’s Dance) and the giants’ ceremonial dances: the Giants of Sant Simó, the Àliga, the Ball de Quatre and the Ball de Grossos. The day ended with the last dances of the Àliga and Robafaves before they went back into Can Marfà.
Congratulations to Equips de Suport, always present at Mataró’s events, for their great work.
28 October, Sant Simó’s Day
Every 28 October, Mataró celebrates Sant Simó’s Day, a festival linked to the city’s seafaring traditions. And on Sant Simó, the sabre is a must at the table.
What is the Sant Simó sabre?
The sabre is a sweet brioche filled with marzipan and shaped like a sabre. You can find it every 28 October at the stalls around the hermitage and in Mataró’s pastry shops.
Between parades, dances and a slice of sabre shared with friends, we keep celebrating a festival handed down from generation to generation. Culture, fun and tradition!
