Once again, Mataró will be without its traditional Tres Tombs celebration. A tradition that for many years formed part of the city’s festive calendar and that, at Robafaves, we do not want to see forgotten.

Because we firmly believe that traditions do not disappear as long as there are people willing to remember them and keep them alive. That is why we are once again celebrating our own symbolic Tres Tombs at Espai Robafaves, as a small act of remembrance, recognition and love for popular culture.

And in 2026, we will not be celebrating alone. We have a very special guest: the Mulassa de Torredembarra. 🐴

The Mulassa de Torredembarra comes to Mataró

Welcoming a figure such as the Mulassa de Torredembarra is a real honour. Not only because it gives us the opportunity to admire it up close, but because it is a living part of the festive procession of a town with a strong and deeply rooted identity.

For a few days, it leaves the streets of Torredembarra to take its place in our window display, giving children and adults in Mataró the opportunity to discover its details, its history and, above all, its unique personality.

Who is the Mulassa de Torredembarra?

The Mulassa was created in 1995 for Torredembarra’s Festa Major. It is the work of Barcelona artist Carles Cabús, based on an original drawing by Raül Flores.

Since then, it has become one of the most beloved figures of the Seguici Popular de Torredembarra and a character that is difficult to mistake for any other.

Its appearance already reveals much of its personality: a mischievous expression, an enormous mouth full of teeth and a cheeky character that is a long way from the idea of a calm and solemn mule.

A Mulassa that is wonderfully “crazy”

If there is one word that particularly defines this figure, it is “crazy”. That is how the people of Torredembarra describe the Mulassa when it takes to the streets.

Its wild behaviour is part of its identity. During the Festa Major, the Mulassa brings joy, chaos and celebration, turning each appearance into one of the most entertaining moments of the procession.

This distinctive character is precisely what transforms a festive figure from simply being a crafted object into a personality recognised and loved by an entire town.

Why do we celebrate our own Tres Tombs?

The presence of the Mulassa also gives us an opportunity to remember a tradition that was once part of Mataró’s festive calendar: the Tres Tombs.

With the celebration currently absent from the city, at Espai Robafaves we wanted to keep its memory alive in our own way. We do not intend to replace the traditional event, but rather to remember it, explain it and highlight the importance of preserving traditions that form part of Mataró’s festive memory.

Our Tres Tombs is different, small and symbolic. But it is also our way of saying that a tradition remains alive for as long as someone remembers it.
