Quiénes somos — Ferran Muñoz, creador de Robafaves | Mataró

As a child, the festival was magic. Giants and beasts dancing to the rhythm of a city that loves its traditions. For me, that magic had a name and a face: Robafaves.

I am Ferran Muñoz i Pérez, graphic designer and creative director of Robafaves. Growing up, I was taught to look beyond the cardboard and wood: to discover the history and soul that each figure carries within. That love became a project. And the project became a community.

How Robafaves was born

In 2010, the magazine El Tot Mataró held an alternative poster competition for Les Santes. I entered with an illustration of Robafaves. I didn't win — but sometimes not winning opens other doors.

The welcome from the people of Mataró was so warm that the project kept going. We illustrated not only Robafaves, but all the other figures of Mataró's comparsas: la Geganta, la Toneta, Maneló, les Diablesses, el Drac, el Dragalió, la Momerota, la Momeroteta, el Basilisc and l'Àliga. What started as a single poster has become a cultural platform where the figures of Les Santes are the driving force.

The Espai Robafaves

Today Robafaves has a physical home at Carrer Montserrat 7 in Mataró — the first and only space in the city dedicated entirely to the Giants of Mataró and Les Santes. It is not a conventional shop — it is an experience. Every person who walks in lives the festive imagery of Mataró in their own way.

The space was awarded the prize at the 7th Mostra d'Arquitectura del Maresme.

The Robafaves Capgròs

In 2025 we made a long-held dream come true: the Robafaves.cat Capgròs. It is not just a figure — it is a symbol. A tribute to the giant that inspires us. Entrusted to the Taller Casserras, under the direction of la Sessa, they created a unique piece with its own character. Taller Casserras knows the spirit of Mataró well: its founder, Manel Casserras i Boix, restored Robafaves, la Geganta, la Toneta, Maneló, l'Àliga and el Drac.

Collaborations

We collaborate annually with the Mataró City Council, donating our illustrations free of charge to the tourism office for use in the games on the city's virtual screens. We also collaborate occasionally with Abacus and the Biblioteca Iluro so that children can discover the Giants of Mataró through our illustrations.
