Quirze and Minerva: Pride and Tradition from Calella

At Robafaves.cat, we continue bringing popular culture closer through unique experiences and emblematic figures. This time, we're thrilled to welcome two very special guests: Quirze and Minerva, the beloved giant figures from Calella!
They are the first giants ever to visit our space, and we couldn’t ask for better guests of honour!

Come meet them and discover their story and symbolism!

Who are Quirze and Minerva?

In 2011, the Colla Gegantera de Calella commissioned the construction of these giants from Toni Mujal, one of the most renowned giant-makers in Catalonia. The goal was to encourage children’s participation in parades and keep the tradition alive through the next generation.

They were named Quirze and Minerva, in honour of the town’s two major festivals:
He represents a Roman centurion, dressed in the traditional style of manaies or festive soldiers.
She embodies the graceful lady of the giant, with elegance, vibrant colours and plenty of charm.

Together, they’ve paraded through streets, squares and festivals across the country, and now they stop by Mataró to spark the imagination of the youngest visitors!

Thank you, Colla Gegantera de Calella! 馃檶

We sincerely thank la Colla Gegantera de Calella for lending us these two giant figures and making it possible for them to be admired and loved in our city as well.

With gestures like this, popular culture travels, connects and takes root.

Culture, joy and tradition… at Espai Robafaves!

Each new figure we receive is another opportunity to experience celebration, heritage and community. At Robafaves.cat, we are excited to be a gathering point for giants, beasts and fire, all seen through the eyes of children and the passion of the people.

Don’t miss the chance to see them in person!
