Who is the Polseguereta? 馃惤

Polseguereta is a festive figure created by the Diables d’Argentona group. It’s inspired by another fire beast called Polseguera, which represents her "mother".

She was designed by sculptor Marc Sala, also an active member of the Diables d’Argentona, who shaped and brought her fiery spirit to life. She made her first public appearance during the Festa Major of Sant Julià in 2015, and has since become a symbolic element of Catalonia’s popular festivals.

The origin of the name: the “repica-truges” legend 馃摉

The name Polseguereta comes from a popular legend in Argentona. Long ago, the villagers were expecting a visit from the Bishop of Barcelona. When they saw a big cloud of dust approaching, they rang the bells to welcome him. But to their surprise, the dust was caused by a cart carrying two large pigs, not the bishop’s carriage!

Since then, the people of Argentona have been nicknamed “repica-truges” (pig-bell ringers), and from this amusing tale was born the ironic and festive figure of the Polseguereta.

Thanks to the Diables d’Argentona 馃檶

We deeply thank the Diables d’Argentona for lending us this fire beast and bringing her to Mataró. Thanks to this generous gesture, we can continue to celebrate and share our vibrant culture from Espai Robafaves.
