Drac de Mataró Dance at the Sant Josep Care Home in Mataró
The Drac of Mataró dancing at the Anada a la Residència Sant Josep in 2019.
Every 28 July, the official festive groups, the authorities and the Banda de l’Agrupació Musical del Maresme visit the Residència Sant Josep care home. After the sardanes, the figures perform their own dances there.
The Drac of Mataró was presented on 20 April 1991, for Sant Jordi. It is inspired by the winged dragon on Robafaves’ helmet and was built by sculptor Manuel Casserras.
The Drac has its own dance, created by Michael Weiss with choreography by Montserrat Calsapeu, to the beat of the drums. It ends with a series of spins that stop as the final fireworks go off.
