Title of the photo displayed at the Frèsia flower shop in Mataró:
Anada a Ofici
Photo Description:
The basilica is full. Clergy, devotees, and authorities—all in their places. The choir and musicians are ready, the baton raised, and in the background, the giantess stands still and solemn, Robafaves majestic. From the portico, with eyes four meters high, they see everything.
Who is Josep Maria Augé?
Josep Maria Augé was born in Mataró in 1972. He describes himself like this:
I’ve always seen myself with a camera in my hands.
I remember myself, a little over 6 years old, imitating my parents during the summer, pressing the red shutter of an Agfa Optima loaded with a 36-photo roll that had to last me 15 days. Later on, when I turned 18, I was given my first analog reflex camera. And then, like almost everyone else, I entered the world of digital photography.
Entirely self-taught, around 2017 what had been a hobby turned into a passion, and I began capturing everything happening on the streets during those turbulent days. Later I met Lluís Rugama, another photography enthusiast to whom I’ll always be grateful. Thanks to him, in 2020 I began collaborating with Ràdio La Veu TV, a platform that has allowed me to be where things happen and to document Mataró’s cultural scene. I also take this opportunity to thank the event organizers who open their doors to me every day, letting me photograph everything that happens in the festivals, theatres, squares, cultural centers, and neighborhoods of the capital of Maresme.
As you know, whenever my work as a doctor in the laboratory of a hospital in Barcelona allows, I dedicate my free time to this passion. Photography has brought me closer to wonderful people and allowed me to step into artistic spaces in the city such as Sala Cabanyes, the Orquestra de Mataró, Festival 2 Terços, Dans Invitro, InMente Teatre, and more recently, the arrauxats of Carnestoltes, among others. And now, thanks to Robafaves.cat, I find myself immersed in this fantastic initiative.
There is nothing more rewarding than touching the soul of someone who connects with your passion. Someone recently told me something that truly moved me: “Josep Maria, you don’t just capture what’s happening—you capture the feeling and the emotion too.”
