Title of the photo displayed at the Frèsia flower shop in Mataró:

Preliminary heartbeat

Photo Description:

From within the smoke of festivals and tradition, a little girl emerges — one of the young Capgrossos of Mataró. In a quiet moment, she watches silently and anxiously: in the distance, the imposing and magical Mataró Dragon appears.

Les Santes cross generations, and she is just beginning to experience her first moments. The Dragon has lit up the streets for decades, and she will see it do so for many years to come.

This photograph captures unique moments of popular culture — tender, restless gazes, eager for a tradition deeply rooted in our identity, among crowds with emotions running high.

Who is Judit López Jové?

I'm Judit López Jové. I was born in Barcelona in 2000, but I currently live in Sant Andreu de Llavaneres. Photography has been a part of my life since I was very young, but it was during my Audiovisual Studies at TecnoCampus in Mataró that I began to look at the world with new eyes — more attentive, more curious.

To practise and gradually improve, I started taking photos of the Capgrossos de Mataró, the colla I was already part of. That’s how I entered the world of the city's popular culture. With the castellera group, and especially thanks to Les Santes, I discovered a whole universe that has completely captivated me.

For me, the most important thing about photography is capturing unique moments — those brief instants that carry something special and somehow make you feel an emotion. Whether it’s a glance, a gesture, or a dance in the middle of the square, I like to think that with my camera, I can freeze an emotion and share it with others.

Les Santes, with all their magic, have given me many of these moments. Being able to share them through my photos is, for me, a true privilege.
