The Àliga de Mataró Dance (Eagle Dance)
The Àliga of Mataró performing its own dance, in a video recorded in 2014.
The Àliga of Mataró, documented since 1601, was revived in 1987. It was built by Solsona sculptor Manuel Casserras in just four months. It wears a crown, has half-spread wings and carries a dove in its beak.
The Àliga dances a choreography by Montserrat Calsapeu to the Ball de l’Àliga, a piece from the archive of the Abbey of Montserrat performed by the Ministrils de Mataró. It begins with a stately walk and ends with a deep bow.
