On 26 April we celebrated 50 years of the Llibre Gegant (Giant Book)! 📖🐉 A tradition born in Mataró that has become one of the city’s best-loved Sant Jordi events.

What is the Llibre Gegant?

Stories written at home by children and families are handed to artists and illustrators, who turn them into drawings. In this way a collective book grows that, after 50 editions, is now part of Mataró’s living memory. This year the artists also painted a mural live to celebrate the anniversary, and Giant Books from previous years were on display.

The Drac and Dragalió’s correconte

The Drac and the Dragalió once again led the correconte, guiding children and families from City Hall to the Llibre Gegant in a parade along La Riera. The Dragalió carried its story in its mouth, and the Drac ended up with the little ones’ dummies hanging from its mouth.

In 2026 the Drac of Mataró also celebrated its 35th anniversary.

Many children came dressed for the occasion in Drac and Diablessa capes. 🐉
