Correfoc Capes for Kids and Adults
Robafaves correfoc capes are devil and dragon capes for kids and adults, made from double-layer, heavyweight 100% cotton. We have two designs inspired by the fire tradition of Mataró: the Diablesses (she-devils) and the Drac (the dragon), two of the fire troupes that take part in Les Santes, Mataró’s main festival.
A correfoc (“fire run”) is a Catalan festival tradition where devils and fire beasts parade through the streets with fireworks, and people often join in wearing a cape. Each correfoc cape combines a black 400 g/m² outer fabric with a 160 g/m² cotton lining: 560 g/m² of cotton in total. We design them at Robafaves and they are made in Mataró, in three sizes for kids and adults.
Why a double-layer correfoc cape?
Most correfoc capes are made from a single layer of fabric. Robafaves capes have two layers of 100% cotton sewn together. This gives the cape more body and thickness, so it sits better on the shoulders and covers the clothes you wear underneath more effectively.
The figures are also embroidered, and each cape has its own details: the horns of the Diablesses or the crest and tail of the Drac.
Correfoc cape sizes
Our capes come in three sizes. Since every child is a different height, the ages are only a guide: the best way to choose the right size is to check the length of the cape.
- Small: approximately 3 to 6 years. 60 cm long from the nape of the neck to the bottom of the cape.
- Medium: approximately 7 to 9 years. 76.5 cm long from the nape of the neck to the bottom of the cape.
- Large (adult): from approximately 10 years up to adult. 1 metre long from the nape of the neck to the bottom of the cape.
Materials and manufacturing
The body of the cape is made from two layers of 100% cotton: a black 400 g/m² outer fabric and a 160 g/m² lining. The result is a thick cape with much more body than an ordinary garment.
The Drac and Diablesses figures are sublimated onto small polyester patches, then embroidered and sewn onto the cape. The rest of the garment is 100% cotton.
The capes are designed by Robafaves and made in Mataró.
Two correfoc cape designs
Choose between two designs inspired by the fire and the figures of Les Santes de Mataró:
Devil correfoc cape · Diablesses de Mataró
Black and red, with the distinctive horns inspired by the Diablesses de Mataró, an embroidered Diablessa figure and a red flame. This is Robafaves’ devil cape.
Dragon correfoc cape · Drac de Mataró
Black and green, with a crest inspired by the Drac de Mataró, an embroidered Drac figure and a green tail at the back.
To complete your correfoc outfit, we also have the GUSPIRA correfoc hat and the correfoc scarf.
Correfoc capes and Les Santes de Mataró
Fire plays a big part in Les Santes, Mataró’s Festa Major. The Diablesses, the Drac, the Dragalió, the Momerota and the Momeroteta take part in many events throughout the festival.
Both Robafaves designs come from this tradition: one is dedicated to the Diablesses de Mataró and the other to the Drac de Mataró. Two different ways to bring a little of the fire of Les Santes to any correfoc.
Frequently asked questions about correfoc capes
Is the correfoc cape fireproof?
No. Robafaves correfoc capes are not fireproof and have no flame-retardant treatment. Although they are made from heavyweight 100% cotton, the fabric can burn or be damaged if it comes into contact with flames, sparks or other sources of heat.
The cape never replaces the safety measures set by the organisers of a correfoc. Always follow the safety recommendations of each event and wear suitable clothing and footwear.
How do I choose the right size?
It is better to check the length of the cape than to go by age alone. Measure from the nape of the neck downwards and compare the result with the three available lengths: 60 cm, 76.5 cm or 1 metre.
From what age can children wear a correfoc cape?
The smallest size is designed for children from approximately 3 years old. Young children should always follow the organisers’ instructions and be accompanied by an adult.
What is the difference between the Diablesses cape and the Drac cape?
Both have the same materials, sizes and manufacturing. Only the design changes: the Diablesses cape is black and red, with horns and a flame; the Drac cape is black and green, with a crest and a tail.
What should I wear to a correfoc?
As well as the cape, we recommend long-sleeved cotton clothing, closed shoes, a hat or hood and a correfoc scarf to protect your neck and face. Always follow the safety instructions of each correfoc.
How do I wash a correfoc cape?
We recommend washing it at a maximum of 30 °C, separately and without bleach. It can be ironed at a maximum of 150 °C, avoiding ironing directly over the embroidery and patches.
