Correfoc Hat

GUSPIRA Correfoc Hat

Bringing back an emblematic piece of Les Santes

Discover GUSPIRA, the Mataró Correfoc Hat with which we bring back a historic piece of our festival.

For years, this hat was part of the streets of Mataró during Les Santes. It was much more than an accessory: it helped protect against fire and sparks, but it also represented a whole way of experiencing the correfocs.

Today, from Robafaves, we bring it back with a new edition made entirely in Catalonia and embroidered in Mataró, preserving the essence of the old correfoc hats while adapting it to today’s quality standards.

Quality and craftsmanship

Each hat is handmade using 100% heavyweight cotton, with materials designed to withstand the demands of the correfoc.

The exterior is made from black Mikado fabric of 300 g/m², while the interior features red Mikado fabric of 200 g/m², offering a combination of resistance, comfort and durability.

The embroidery, made in Mataró, provides the distinctive finish that characterises all Robafaves products and turns each piece into an exclusive item.

A tribute to Nefer Rovira

GUSPIRA does not only bring back a traditional element of Mataró’s correfocs.

It also pays tribute to Nefer Rovira, one of the artists who has contributed most to defining the visual imagery of Les Santes over the decades.

The hat features a reinterpretation of one of the moons originally created for the costumes of the Diablesses de Mataró, a work that forms part of the collective memory of several generations of people from Mataró.

This edition has been approved by the artist herself and aims to recognise her career, as well as all those people who, through art and popular culture, have helped build the festive identity of our city.

Made to experience the correfoc

The hat is one of the most recommended accessories for taking part in any correfoc.

Its design covers the head and the back of the neck, helping protect against sparks and providing comfort throughout the festival.

But in Mataró’s correfoc, it represents much more than protection. It is a piece of our history and a way of feeling part of a tradition that remains alive year after year.

Correfoc safety: what you need to know

This hat does not have a fire-retardant treatment. Fire-retardant treatment is simply a liquid applied to the base fabric and has a limited duration: it loses effectiveness over time and with washing.

It is important to understand that any fabric, regardless of the treatment it may have received, can burn when it comes into direct contact with fire or sparks. This contact may cause small marks or colour variations and, in more intense cases, may even perforate the fabric.

That is why it is essential to use thick fabric and avoid synthetic materials such as polyester, which can melt with heat and stick to the skin, increasing the risk of injury.

To ensure the highest possible level of protection, we make GUSPIRA with 100% heavyweight cotton, a much more suitable material for facing the sparks of correfocs.

Experience Les Santes de Mataró

GUSPIRA was created to return to the streets during Les Santes.

It is the perfect accessory for experiencing the correfocs with the Diablesses de Mataró, the Drac, the Dragalió, the Momerota, the Momeroteta and all the popular culture that fills the city during the Festa Major.

More than a hat, it is a way of becoming part of a tradition that continues to move generation after generation.

The return of a classic

Some traditions disappear because no one carries them on.

With GUSPIRA, we wanted to do exactly the opposite.

We are bringing back the Mataró Correfoc Hat so that it can continue to be part of the streets, the correfocs and Les Santes. At the same time, we honour the figure of Nefer Rovira, an essential creator for understanding part of the city’s festive imagery.

At Robafaves, we continue to defend what makes us unique: culture, tradition and the people who make them possible.

Frequently asked questions about GUSPIRA

Is the hat fireproof?

No. Fireproof fabrics do exist, but their cost makes them unfeasible for regular use in correfocs. Fire-retardant treatments applied to conventional fabrics also lose effectiveness with washing.

That is why GUSPIRA is made from 100% heavyweight cotton, the safest and most recommended material for taking part in a correfoc: it resists sparks better and, unlike polyester, does not melt or stick to the skin.

How do I know which size I need?

Measure the circumference of your head with a flexible measuring tape.

Place it approximately one centimetre above your ears and eyebrows, passing around the widest part of your head. The measurement in centimetres corresponds to the hat size.

If you are between two sizes, we recommend choosing the larger one for greater comfort.

Is it suitable for taking part in a correfoc?

Yes. Its design covers the head and the back of the neck, helping protect against sparks. For even greater protection, we recommend combining it with a scarf and thick cotton clothing.

Who is Nefer Rovira?

Nefer Rovira is an artist from Mataró who has contributed for decades to building the visual imagery of Les Santes.

Among her best-known works are the moons created for the costumes of the Diablesses de Mataró, one of the most emblematic groups of the Festa Major.

Where is it made?

GUSPIRA is made entirely in Catalonia and hand-embroidered in Mataró.

Is it a limited edition?

Yes.

The production of GUSPIRA for Les Santes is limited. Once the available units are sold out, it will not be produced again until the next edition.
