Who is Momerota of Mataró?

Momerota is one of Mataró’s fire figures and takes part in some of the best-known events of Les Santes. She was created by Boris Ruiz and first presented in 1979.

She is carried by two people and has a bull’s head, two horns with one fire point on each horn, and a mulassa-style body. During events involving pyrotechnics, fire comes from the ends of both horns.

Momerota is the mother of Momeroteta, which was presented three years later, and they both take part in fire events during the Festa Major de Mataró, including Escapada a Negra Nit.
