La Momerota de Mataró was officially presented on 25 July 1979, as a result of a popular initiative to recover and renew the festive heritage of Les Santes. It was not until 1981 that the figure, the carriers and the musicians were recognised by the local authority and became part of the city's heritage.

La Momerota was built by actor Boris Ruiz. It is a fire figure carried by two people, with a bull's head crowned by two horns with six fire points and the body of a mulassa.

The Colla de la Momerota

The Colla de la Momerota de Mataró is made up of around forty carriers, dressed in a wide shirt-style coat, sash, black trousers, traditional esparto espadrilles and a black beret. They are accompanied by around twenty musicians with gralles and tabors.

The dance of La Momerota

La Momerota performs a choreography by Montse Calsapeu, accompanied by the sound of gralles and tabors. The dance consists of a succession of little jumps, small and half turns, movements and shakes that culminate in progressively accelerating circular movements.

Les Santes events featuring La Momerota

La Momerota takes part in most events of Les Santes de Mataró, Mataró's Festival: la Crida, el Correfoc, l'Anada a Ofici, la Passada, el No n'hi ha prou and l'Anem a tancar. It also appears during the Mataró Carnival and at the city's neighbourhood festivals.
