What is Àliga of Mataró?

Àliga of Mataró is a historic figure in the city’s institutional procession and one of the figures associated with Les Santes de Mataró.

Documentary references to Àliga date back to 1601. The current figure was recovered in 1987 thanks to an initiative by a group linked to the Giants of Mataró and the City Council.

Àliga has partially spread wings, wears a crown and holds a dove in its beak. During the institutional procession, it occupies a prominent position behind the Família Robafaves and in front of the authorities.
