Who is Toneta of Mataró?

Toneta is the daughter of Robafaves and the Geganta and a member of the Família Robafaves, one of the central groups of Les Santes de Mataró, the city’s Festa Major.

Her origins are traditionally dated to 1853. The name Toneta derives from the Catalan terms “gegantona” or “gegantoneta”, used for a figure smaller than the giants.

By 1957, Toneta already appeared with the long blonde hair that characterises her image. She dresses in shades of pink and lilac and, like the Geganta, carries a bouquet of natural flowers while holding her skirt with her other hand.
