Who are Les Diablesses de Mataró?

Les Diablesses de Mataró are a fire group founded in 1985 and made up entirely of women. They are part of Mataró’s popular culture and take part in different events during Les Santes de Mataró.

The group has 38 members, accompanied by around twenty musicians. Each Diablessa carries a mace with a carretilla at the top and, since 1994, also carries a sarró that can hold approximately twenty carretilles.

The Diablesses’ costumes were designed by local artist Nefer Rovira and are one of the visual elements that identify the group.

During Les Santes, the Diablesses take part in events such as the Crida, Escapada a Negra Nit, Anada a Ofici, Passada, No n’hi ha prou and Anem a tancar.
